THE HONOURARY NATIONAL ELDERS: hOW IT STARTED

The Honourary National Elders is a product of the vision the Lord gave to the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye to bring to the service of the Lord all Senior Pastors who have served the Mission well in their various areas of calling to use their wealth of experience to help the church and develop the younger generation in the areas of prayer, counseling, conflict resolution and doctrines. In The Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Honourary National Elders is one of the groups that is classified under The National Council of Elders.

As a result of this vision given to our father in the Lord, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the first set of 59 Honourary National Elders were ordained by laying of hand by The General Overseer during August 2015 Annual Convention. This was followed by ordination of 48 Elders in 2016, 61 Elders in 2017, 43 Elders in 2018, 59 Elders in 2021 and 70 Elders in 2023.

DECLARATION OF THE GENERAL OVERSEER AT THE ORDINATION OF HONOURARY NATIONAL ELDERS

The General Overseer declares, “I want to have the privilege of ordaining Honourary Elders. And the Elders in the Redeemed Christian Church of God Honourary Elders carry special anointing to heal the sick, set the captives free and to give you counsel when you are bothered about issues of doctrines. The Honourary Elders as a matter of fact, are to be honoured more than the official Elders because they offer their services free of charge and they are worthy of double honour. And so in all our parishes, please you must give the Honourary Elders extra honour. And anytime we gather together for any programme and there is need for counselling, there is need for healing, there are some intricate cases that require special attention, these are the people to call upon. So, I will ask that the people to be ordained as Honourary Elders should please come forward because I will be laying hands on them myself.”

The General Overseer lays hands on each person and prays for all. After that he declares as follows: We ordain you as Elders in The Redeemed Christian Church of God, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

  • The Almighty God Himself will overshadow you.
  • The Holy Spirit will be your strength.
  • Whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven.
  • Whatever you lose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven.
  • Whatever you ask to come will come.
  • Whatever you ask to go will go.
  • You will not fall.
  • You will not fail.
  • God will support you.
  • He will strengthen you.
  • He will fight your battles for you.
  • He will defend you.
  • He will use you for His glory.
  • And in the Kingdom of God, you will not be missing.
  • So shall it be for, so we decree it in the Mighty name of Jesus.”
